Godzilla Lives!
A Godzilla fanfiction by Travis J. DeSantis
Chapter Twenty-Six
True to his crocodile heritage, Ogakor had tracked his rival to Tokyo Bay. As his ancestors had hunted for millions of years, he would float just below the surface and lie in wait, coiled like a spring and hidden by the water. His instincts would tell him when the time was right, the time to release all his energy in one tremendous burst. Ogakor would tear his prey asunder before it had time to react.
However, Godzilla had been planning for this, if such a word could be used to describe the dinosaur's thought processes. Tokyo was his territory. He had tried before to wipe out the bugs that plagued his land, but they always returned like a bad rash. Even so, beings so small and weak were an annoyance to him, not a threat. Godzilla felt safe in Tokyo, and in control. He had purposely led the mutant croc to this forest of concrete and steel and glass. Here, Ogakor's speed advantage in the water would be nullified.
Massive jaws clamped down on Godzilla's knee, a forest of serrated teeth plunging into tree bark scales. In retaliation, the black giant's claws scraped Ogakor's unarmored belly, drawing long and bloody gashes in his flesh. Ogakor's body began to turn, building up into the crocodile's trademark 'death roll.' Godzilla's pained shrieked issued forth in a cloud of bubbles as his flesh and joints were twisted mercilessly. The black giant's free leg started to pound on Ogakor's head, jarring his skull. The croc felt a twinge in his locked up jaws. He tried to withstand the pummeling from Godzilla's foot, but the muscles were burning like fire now, forcing him to let go prematurely.
Godzilla tugged on the reptile's tail and pulled him away from the wounded leg. Using his sheer body mass, the dinosaur pressed down on Ogakor, trying to drown him in the relatively shallow waters of Tokyo Bay. The intruder thrashed, battering Godzilla with tail and talons. The mismatched crew of the Super-X2 watched from above as the bay became a frothing cauldron of kaiju soup.
When the saurian finally lost his leverage, Ogakor scrambled away to catch a breath. But by now, Godzilla's regenerative powers had kicked in and the leg was healed enough for him to regain his footing. He took hold of Ogakor's tail once more and with a growl of effort, dragged the intruder out of the bay and onto land.
Furious, the crocodile struggled with all his might, striking the weakened knee and throwing the saurian off balance. As the black giant crashed to the ground, Ogakor fell upon his rival once again. Claws swiped and fangs gnashed, drawing arcs of blood from each mutant monster. The pair rolled over the streets, flattening buildings and tearing up the pavement with their respective boney spines.
Godzilla tried to strangle his foe, but his claws could not find purchase on the thick, dense muscles of Ogakor's neck. Also, the boney blades sticking out of the intruder's sides fended off Godzilla's attempts to deliver a crushing bear hug. Jagged teeth sticking out of the croc's maw raked along Godzilla's neck and chest, tearing into his bark-like armor.
Fed up, the black giant drew his feet in and kicked against Ogakor's underside with tremendous force. His breath gone, Ogakor could do nothing as he sailed through the air. The reptile finally came down on the Telecom Center, crashing through the horizontal corridor. The two high-rise towers were now unconnected, standing solemnly over the prone mutant.
Godzilla rose and stomped over to his fallen opponent, a slight limp still visible in his gait, leftover from the crocodile's death roll. He walked between Telecom Center's towers and paused to look up at them, which stood nearly twice his height. The giant did not recognize these; they were new. The humans were building these ugly hive nests faster than he could destroy them. A situation he would rectify some other time. For now, the black giant was content to lay his clawed hands on the towers of glass.
Like Samson tearing down the temple of the Philistines, Godzilla toppled the constructs with a mighty push. He roared, once again asserting his power over the weak bug that is Man. As if to accentuate the behemoth's god-like power, the heavens opened with a rumble of thunder and the downpour began. All who watched were humbled in the presence of this wrathful nature deity.
In the time given by this diversion, Ogakor had regained his senses. Sweet air rushed back into his strained lungs, bringing with it a burst of renewed energy and the reptile rolled back to his feet. He hissed a warning, but it meant little to his rival. Godzilla took another step closer, taunting the reptile.
Primal ire seethed through Ogakor's body, though it paled in comparison to Godzilla's atomic rage. The crocodile swung his bladed tail maliciously, tearing a sizable chunk out of the Aomi Frontier Building. Everyone--either in the Super-X2 or at G-Force HQ--watched in surprise as Ogakor's back arched like a cat. The claws on his feet bit into pavement as all his weight shifted backwards. Slowly, with the disturbing sound of straining bones and cartilage, the crocodile stood semi-erect on his hind legs. Hunched over in an S position, Ogakor stood only up to Godzilla's shoulder. But the long talons of his forefeet were now readied for melee combat and his lower center of gravity meant he retained his balance advantage over the taller saurian.
As the crocodile snapped his jaws at Godzilla, the black giant's hands flexed in anticipation. Not since his youth, when he was still an unmutated dinosaur, had he fought another beast this challenging. This fight was getting better and better.

"It looks like they're even," Yashiro observed aloud, from the relative safety of the Super-X2's cabin.
"I wouldn't be so sure of that," replied Sho, watching the battle with a more strategic eye.
The sonic transmitter would clearly have no affect on Godzilla amidst this bloody duel, so Kuroki opted to keep their craft well out of striking distance. From their aerial vantage point, the major was carefully keeping score. Godzilla appeared to have the upper hand in power and agility, but he had also sustained more damage. Ogakor--or as he was known to G-Force, DK-II--had a good chance at overcoming the nuclear nightmare; which would be preferred, seeing as how G-Force had a better chance at killing the monster croc.
Miki remained a silent spectator, for a strange feeling had overcome her. Her primary psychic connection was still with Godzilla, but since the crocodile was a modern beast, he was easier to read. She had also come to the same conclusion as Sho: Even though the mutant crocodile lacked intelligence, the species from which he was spawned were crafty and aggressive by nature. The young woman knew for certain that only one of the kaiju would walk away from this battle alive.
