Godzilla Lives!
A Godzilla fanfiction by Travis J. DeSantis
Chapter Twenty-Eight
The two titans collided with the sound of an earthquake. Indeed, the whole Waterfront Subcenter trembled under their giant steps. Like the score of epic cinema, the storm that surrounded them played a symphony of violence with drums of thunder and horns of lightning.
They stood toe-to-toe with each other, snarling and grappling. Ogakor's long talons dug gashes in Godzilla's chest and arms. The black giant countered with a swing of his own claws, and his fist connected with the croc's head. Again and again, Godzilla swung at his opponent like a heavyweight prizefighter, rattling the intruder's elongated skull. The reptile's head whipped around with each blow, but he would not give ground. Frustrated, the giant reared back and shoulder-checked Ogakor. The crocodile stumbled backwards, but used his rigid tail for support and remained standing.
Now on the counterattack, Ogakor snapped his jaws, causing the black giant to pull his arms back in. Godzilla growled and rushed forward once more, but this time the reptile used his talons to stab instead of slash. Several long claws pierced the bark-like scales and slid between Godzilla's ribs. Long crocodile jaws closed around the dinosaur's neck, cutting into Godzilla's flesh and cutting off his air. He shrieked in pain, squirming to release the reptile's bloody grip.
The saurian's claws scrabbled over Ogakor's scales desperately, but he could find no leverage with which to break free. Black spots started to fill Godzilla's vision and his maw hung open in a silent roar. Using the last of his strength, the giant brought up his foot and struck Ogakor in the pit of his stomach. He struck again and the crocodile whined in pain as his innards contorted under the blow. The croc's grip was loosened just enough and Godzilla pushed off his attacker, both kaiju lurching away from each other.
Ogakor hissed again, savoring his advantage over the weakened dinosaur. Godzilla's torso was dyed a rich crimson as blood flowed thickly from the deep wounds on his neck and chest. The thick fluid streamed down his scales like the lava had a week before, being washed away in the rain and then replaced with another surge at each heartbeat. The wounds were already starting to heal, but the black giant wavered in place from the tremendous loss of life fluid. Ogakor lunged with his jaws, an attack the saurian could not defend against in his light-headed state. As a result, a protruding fang sliced along Godzilla's cheek and split open his left eye. He clutched the bloodied socket, roaring in fury.
Before the crocodile could press the attack, atomic energy jumped to life along Godzilla's spines. A wave of thermonuclear wrath washed over Ogakor at point blank range and the reptile howled in torment as his scales were melted by the blue plasma. Propelled by the force of the beam, Ogakor was flung across Aomi and crashed into the pavement. Sparks lit the streets as he dug a long trench in the ground. The croc finally came to a stop as he struck the Odaiba Ferris Wheel, causing the World's Second Largest Ferris Wheel to shudder dangerously.
Within the Super-X2, Miki gasped. The helicopter that was loyally transmitting this titanic battle to G-Force HQ had been hovering over Palette Town when Ogakor struck the wheel. It's structural supports damaged, the wheel teetered on the brink of falling, presenting an sobering final image for those in the AH-1S. Despite the pilot's emergency maneuvers, the helicopter was caught beneath the enormous construct when it finally toppled over, getting swatted down like a mechanical fly. The psychic covered her face, too frightened to see what would come next. But in her mind, she could still hear the terrified screams of the helicopter's occupants as they were flattened under the Ferris wheel in a ball of flame and twisted metal. Even the storm could not put out the fire that now blackened their unfortunate corpses.
For a while, no one moved. Godzilla seemed glued to the spot, panting heavily so that his breath came out as a misty cloud in the chill wind. Several small fires decorated the streets and the dust from Ogakor's falling eventually settled. Sho's teeth ground together, the only sound in the Super-X2's cabin. They could do nothing but watch as the black giant recovered from his fatigue and dragged himself over to his prone adversary, eager to make sure the battle was finished.
Like lightning, the crocodile whipped around to attack. He was playing possum, regaining his composure while waiting for another chance to strike. Too weary to dodge the lunge, Godzilla's arm was in Ogakor's wickedly fanged maw once again. The mutant reptile shook it like a rag doll, digging in his serrated teeth as deep as they'd go. To his credit, Godzilla did not cry out in pain. He only took hold of the croc's face and jerked his arm free, but not without a price. The dinosaur stumbled back, staring dumbly at his mangled limb. The imbedded fangs had torn muscle and sinew to ribbons, leaving a bloody mess that barely resemble an arm.
But Ogakor was not finished with his assault. Taking heavy steps that smashed craters in the pavement, the croc turned in place and swung his long tail around like a bladed whip. The thickly armored appendage crashed into Godzilla's torso with such force as to lift him off the ground. The black giant flew through the air, trailed by a spray of gore. His monstrous form crossed the canal that bisects the Subcenter and crashed into the sloping sides of the Tokyo Fashion Town Building. The commerce complex folded in around him and buried his saurian body in rubble. Through the dust and detritus, a long wound could be seen across his torso. Blood flowed from the gash like a waterfall and several internal organs threatened to spill out.
Ogakor raised his long head and cried shrilly, declaring his victory.
Miki wailed in despair.
