Godzilla Lives!
A Godzilla fanfiction by Travis J. DeSantis
Chapter Thirty
With a sigh-like growl, Ogakor leaned forward and fell back onto all fours. Standing up gave him the necessary edge to defeat Godzilla, but it put a tremendous strain on his crocodilian body.
The reptile crawled towards the river; actually the Subcenter's Marine Transport System. It was convenient for the croc, because he could leave this ugly place without too much walking. There was no food to be found in this unnatural jungle. It would be a simple matter to cross the river and feed on Godzilla's corpse, but the dinosaur's blood left a foul taste in Ogakor's mouth. No, it would be better to swim out into the ocean and snap up a whale. He gratefully slid into the river, letting the cool water sooth his strained muscles and aching wounds. With powerful strokes of his long tail, Ogakor worked up a steady rhythm that carried him quickly through the MTS.
However, Sho had other plans in mind. Bringing the Super-X2 down low, it skimmed the surface just behind the mutant reptile. He launched a AGM-84 Harpoon from the craft's torpedo tube and it dropped into the river. Sliding beneath Ogakor's frothy wake, the Harpoon jumped to life and shot forward with over 600 pounds of thrust. But it needn't travel far, gaining quickly on its retreating target to explode against the croc's back. Sho wisely chose to pull up after delivery, as the torpedo's detonation resulted in an eruption of water that would have engulfed the SX2.
With a furious shriek, Ogakor crawled out of the MTS and onto land. His long head swung around, eyes casting about for his latest attacker. Despite his searching, the reptile could find no one, for the Super-X2 was now hovering well above him and out of sight. Kuroki switched to the Automatic Cannons and with a squeeze of the trigger, the twin M230s blazed to life, raining down explosive-tipped shells on the mutant crocodile. Ogakor thrashed around under the assault. The armor plates running down his back protected him from the brunt of Kuroki's attack, but many rounds still bit into his arms and legs. Several bullet-ridden blades shattered, seasoning the ground at Ogakor's feet with bone fragments.
Finally catching on, the crocodile's thick neck craned upwards to spot his new foe, but he received several rounds in the face as a prize for his discovery. Ogakor snapped at the air, trying to reach the stinging insect, but crocodiles were not jumpers and it was too high up. The great beast shook his head, trying to clear it of the bug's piercing attacks. The Super-X2 had switched to AAM-4 Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles, which chased the flustered reptile around Ariake like an angry swarm.
Much of the Waterfront Subcenter had been devastated beneath enormous kaiju feet. But one large tree remained standing in the forest of constructs: the International Exhibition Center, a.k.a. Tokyo Big Sight. Ogakor scrambled to the complex's Tower Building, trampling its lesser floors in an effort to use the overhanging structure as a shield.
In the SX2's cabin, Sho muttered an oath and ceased the firestorm of missiles. Attacking now would cause unnecessary collateral damage that he didn't want on G-Force's bill. But the air strike would arrive in a matter of minutes, so he still needed a way to draw the mutant back out into the open so the F-15s would have a clear target.
"Any ideas on how to get that freak back over here?" the major asked.
"I could try the sonic transmitter," Yashiro replied. "But that thing is probably too focused on us to make a snack run. Or we could get close enough to convince it to go on the offensive." Now the teen frowned. "Except I'm not too keen on the idea of being the bait."
"Your thoughts, Ms. Saegusa?"
Miki had stopped crying and she now faced the forward monitor, looking past Tokyo Big Sight and the frustrated mutant crocodile. There was an indecipherable expression on her tear-streaked face.
