Godzilla Lives!

Chapter Thirty-One
Amane burst into the Tactical Operations room, flashing his identification at the guards. The TO was in chaos as the technicians tried to find out why they lost the video feed from the battlefield. "Commander!" he said, running up to the rotund soldier. He saluted hastily and gasped to catch his breath.
"What is it, sergeant?" Aso said.
"I've--got--a plan," the redhead replied between deep breaths.
"I'm glad someone does," the older man replied. "Things are going to Hell out there."
"Sir, I was just talking to the Fire Mirror and they said that the laser cannon can be powered with electricity. What if we hook it up to an ordinary generator and fire it like that?"
Commander Aso blinked, surprised by the question. "Well, yes. I suppose that could work. I'd be too dangerous to truck the Fire Mirror out to the battlefield."
"We wouldn't have to, sir. Couldn't we just put the laser on top of a tall building or something?"
The commander sat back in his seat, a look of concentration coming over his face. "The TMGO."
"Um, what, sir?"
"That's right, you haven't been here long, sergeant. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office in West Shinjuku. It's the tallest building in the city and the second tallest in Japan. They have a backup generator in the basement for emergencies."
"Then we can have them run some power cables up to the roof!" said Higa excitedly, finishing the commander's train of thought.
"I'll send the order through immediately. How exactly do you propose we get the Fire Mirror up there?"
"I know a guy in the Iruma Air Rescue Wing. He can have a Chinook over here in minutes."
"But would we need it? I've already called in the air strike from Hyakuri."
Amane snorted, then remembered that he was talking to G-Force's supreme commander and cleared his throat. "With
all due respect, sir. If we could beat Godzilla with just some F-15s, we wouldn't even have a Fire Mirror."
"You missed the last report, Sergeant Higa. Godzilla is already dead."
That stopped the redheaded soldier in his tracks. "Er, well, it couldn't hurt to set up," he argued lamely.
The commander looked up from his seat and paused for a moment. Finally, he nodded and waved for one of the technicians to come over. "I'll put through the order to the TMGO. Do what you need to."
"Yes sir!" Amane pulled out his walkie-talkie and jammed the button. "Tanaka, you there?"
"Yeah, what do you need?" the old man's voice responded, crackling due various interference in the TO.
"Do you have any kind of machine that can manually aim the Fire Mirror's laser?"
"Well, we have a special crane that we used to lift it for the installation. I don't know if it's precise enough for pinpoint accuracy, but that's all we got."
"And it's all we need. Prep the laser, the crane, and anything else you'll need." The young soldier smiled grimly. "We're gonna take a little ride."
