Godzilla Lives!
A Godzilla fanfiction by Travis J. DeSantis
Epilogue
There was a skip to Kenneth's step today. As he left the paramilitary compound, he took a deep breath of the heavy tropical air. It had rained the night before, but it always rained in the jungle. What mattered now was that the sun was shining and it was another glorious day.
The gray-haired man took off his jacket and slung it over his shoulder with one hand, the other hand fingering a glass vial in his pocket that had just been delivered. The Special Ops Strike Team commander was already leaving, excusing himself to go on another mission. The black, unmarked helicopter zoomed into the cloudless azure sky. Kenneth saluted as it left, then smiled and laughed.
His joy was cut short as the island trembled slightly under his feet. A frown crossed his handsome face. This wasn't a volcanic island, nor was there one in the immediate vicinity. He would have shrugged it off, but shouts and alarms had just rose up around the base. His normally perfect composure was being strained as soldiers dashed around him, all heading in the general direction of the escape vehicles.
A spray of water drenched the sea-facing side of the base as a towering mass rose from the depths. A shadow eclipsed the bright morning sun and Kenneth blinked, staring up at its vaguely man-shaped form that glistened with scales the hue of coal.
The man ripped the vial from his pocket and stared at the dark, viscous liquid within. "You devil," the Red Bamboo executive murmured. "You knew he'd follow it."
Kenneth--Kenny to his friends--died without another word as the paramilitary base was drowned in blue atomic plasma. Flocks of birds erupted from the surrounding islands to escape the heat. A single plume of curling black smoke rose into the otherwise cloudless sky.
